Becker (family of scholars)

The Becker are a branch of academics in Mecklenburg who have produced numerous Protestant pastors , university lecturers and doctors since the seventeenth century and for whom the seaside city of Rostock was initially an important center of life.

During the Thirty Years War , Harm (Hermann) Becker († 1669) , who came from Westphalia , settled in Rostock as a merchant. The various lineages of the sex descend from his son Hermann Becker (1632–1681).
