Beeville is a city and seat of the county seat of Bee County in the US state of Texas in the United States of America .
geography
The city is located at the intersection of US Highways 59 and 181 on Poesta Creek in southeast Texas, is about 100 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of 15.8 km², without any significant water surface. The distance to Corpus Christi in the southwest is approximately 90 km and to San Antonio in the northwest approximately 160 km.
history
The first settlers and city founders were the Burke, Carroll and Heffernan families around 1830. They first named the settlement Maryville , but then renamed it "Beeville" after Barnard Elliott Bee , a Brigadier General of the Confederate in the American Civil War as well as Secretary of State and Secretary of War Republic of Texas.
The first post office opened in 1859 and in 1880 the town had 300 residents. After the first railway line came here in 1886, the population rose to 1,000 over the next 4 years. The oil boom in the 1920s and oil discoveries in the area also gave the town a surge in population and in 1930 the number was 4806.

According to the census in 2000 , 13,129 people lived here in 4,697 households and 3,287 families. The population density was 829.6 inhabitants per km ². The racial population is composed of 72.08% White, 2.87% African American, 0.59% Native American, 0.69% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, and 20.63% other ethnic groups. About 3.09% are of two or more races, and 67.67% of the population are Spanish or Latin American.
39.4% of the 4,697 households had children under the age of 18 living with them. 45.5% of them were married couples living together. 19.2% were single mothers and 30.0% were non-families. 26.1% of all households were single households and there were people living in 10.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.30 people.
31.1% of the population were under 18 years old, 11.1% 18 to 24, 26.2% 25 to 44, 19.8% 45 to 64, and 11.8% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 89.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 83.5 men.
The median income for a household in the 25,475 USD , and the median income for a family 27,794 USD. Males had a median income of $ 26,761 versus $ 20,411 for females. The per capita income was $ 11,027. 30.3% of the population and 26.5% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 40.8% were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 24.4% were 65 or older.
