content

Nina, a waitress in a Mexican restaurant in Manhattan, loses her job when she is late for work several times. The brother of the restaurant owner Manny, José, follows her to the subway station to check on her and spontaneously offers her to discuss what to do with him on a walk through the city and a visit to the beach on Long Island she could do in the future. The two stroll through the city. She admits that she is unwantedly pregnant and is considering an abortion because she is no longer with the child's father. When José briefly returns to the restaurant to get his wallet and phone, he clashes with Manny, who also dismisses him without further ado.

The two take a train to see Jose's parents, who run a busy Puerto Rican-Mexican household, and stay for dinner. José tells Nina about his past; He was a famous soccer player who carelessly ran over a child five years ago on the way to a press conference and was imprisoned for four years for negligent homicide. Nina and José spend an evening talking on the beach. The next morning they say goodbye in town, intending to meet again for the abortion of Nina's child. The film's framework, which is now being continued, reveals that José had in the meantime adopted Nina's child and now, four years after the events of the film, Nina comes to see her daughter for the first time.
