Ben Adams (actually Benjamin Willard Adams ; born March 31, 1890 in Newark , New Jersey , † March 14, 1961 in Neptune City , New Jersey) was an American athlete specializing in the disciplines standing vault and standing long jump . Adams won medals in both sports at the 1912 Olympic Games : bronze in the standing long jump and silver in the standing high jump. In the latter discipline he was only defeated by his brother Platt Adams , who won gold.

Athletic career

Ben Adams was a member of the New York Athletic Club , which has produced numerous Olympic champions to this day. In his time, Adams was one of the most successful athletes there. The double victory in the standing vault with his brother Platt in 1912 went down in the history of the Olympic Games. It marks the only occupation of the first two places in an athletics competition by siblings.

Ben Adams not only competed in the two regular jumping disciplines at the 1912 Olympic Games, but also took part in the baseball demonstration tournament, in which no medals were awarded.

After the 1912 Summer Games, the jumps from the stand were deleted from the Olympic program.
