Benedikt Schmier OSB (born January 5, 1682 in Grönenbach , † June 28, 1744 in Eldern near Ottobeuren ) was a German Benedictine and author. He was a professor of philosophy and a professor of canon law .

Life

On November 9, 1700, Johannes Schmier made his religious vows with the Benedictines in the Ottobeuren monastery and took the religious name Benedict. His first Mass he celebrated on August 10, 1706. In the monastery he knew after several posts before 1713 Professor of Philosophy in Salzburg was. From 1709 to 1715 he was Pro-Chancellor of the University of Salzburg. The titles of Dr. theol. he acquired in 1714 that of Dr. iuris in 1715 together with the professorship of canon law. From 1720 to 1721 he was dean of the law faculty. In 1721 he continued to become a professor of theology. From 1724 to 1725 he was prior in the St. Johann priory in Feldkirch. In 1733 he exchanged his position in Salzburg with the position of superior in Eldern. The Archbishop of Salzburg appointed him a clergyman, the Prince Abbot of Kempten a Privy Councilor . He was the younger brother of the Benedictine Franz Schmier .
