Eldern is a district of the Upper Swabian market Ottobeuren .

geography

The hamlet of Eldern is about a kilometer south of Ottobeuren. The place is directly connected to the main town by the state road St 2011 . The Westliche Günz flows through the village .

history

Chapel in Eldern

Eldern was first mentioned in a document in 1466. According to an old tradition, a miraculous image was found there, after which a farmer from Reuthen built a wooden chapel. This was later expanded and finally a new pilgrimage church was built. After the pilgrimage church was demolished in 1806, the St. Maria chapel was built in 1932 .

religion

Every year on Whit Monday there is a procession from the basilica to the Eldernkapelle. Our Lady is to return to her place of origin for one day. Together with the Ottobeuren music band, the community marches to Eldern with prayers and chants. In the evening the statue of Our Lady is brought back to the basilica.

Personalities

Karl Joseph Riepp , master organ builder, was born in Eldern in 1710.
