history

The wasteland was created by clearing work by the Ottobeuren monastery . The monastery systematically expanded and desolated the hamlet. In 1564 the hamlet had 17 residents. Together with the hamlets and wastelands of Böglins, Brüchlins, Bühl, Geislins, Hessen, Leupolz, Reuthen, Schachen, Schellenberg, Schrallen and Wolferts, Haitzen formed an independent municipality until it was incorporated into Ottobeuren on January 1, 1972.
