The hamlet of Eggisried is about three kilometers north of Ottobeuren. The place is connected to the main town by a country road.

history

Eggisried was first mentioned in a document in 1488. The area around Eggisried was already settled during the Epipalaeolithic . A chert knife was found during excavations in 1939. The Maierhof was designated as a fortified cloister courtyard in 1502. The population fluctuated over the centuries. In 1564 67 people lived in the village, in 1811 22 people lived in 3 properties. In 1970 the population increased to 45. In the 17th / 18th The St. Leonhard Chapel was built in the 19th century . This adorns the sculpture of Christophorus . The Erich Schickling Foundation commemorates the artist Erich Schickling, who was born in Pickau (now the Czech Republic) in 1924 and who died there in 2012, in pictures and glass windows .
