Benjamin is a city and seat of the county seat of Knox County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

geography

The city is located in north-central Texas between the South Wichita River and the Brazos River on US Highway 82, is about 80 km to the north from Oklahoma and has a total area of ​​2.7 km², without any significant water surface.

history

Hilory H. Bedford, President and majority owner of the Wichita and Brazos Stock Company founded the city in 1885 and named it after his son Benjamin Bedford . In order to promote the settlement of the place, he gave each of his 12 co-partners a piece of land. The first post office was opened here in 1884, with Bedford as postmaster and in 1886 the place became the district capital and a first school was built. The current town hall was built in 1938 and houses the Knox County Museum in its rooms. There are four churches in Benjamin.
