Big Lake is a city and seat of the county seat of Reagan County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

The city is located in the west of Texas, about 150 km to the south from Mexico and has a total area of ​​3.2 km 2 , without any significant water surface.

history

Big Lake is named after the nearby and mostly dried up lake of the same name (German "Großer See"). The city was founded after the completion of the railroad line of the Kansas City, Mexico, and Orient of Texas Railroad (today: Panhandle and Santa Fe Railroad) in 1911. After the discovery of oil in the vicinity of the city on May 28, 1923, the seat of the county -Administration moved from Stiles to Big Lake in 1925.
