Benjamin Corey Cunningham (born July 7, 1990 in Nashville , Tennessee ) is an American American football player in the position of running back , who is also used as a kick returner in the special teams . He plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the National Football League (NFL).
college
Cunningham played for Middle Tennessee State University in the Sun Belt Conference from 2009 to 2012 . In college he was also used as a kick returner in addition to his position as running back .
In total , he ran 1,629 yards for the MT Blue Raiders in the four years and scored 21 touchdowns . He also caught a total of 47 balls for 465 yards and 2 touchdowns and managed 375 yards as a return specialist .
NFL
In the 2013 NFL Draft , Cunningham was initially not selected by any team after he suffered a serious injury with a patellar tendon rupture on October 13, 2012 in his final college season and had to end it early. Ultimately, he was signed by the St. Louis Rams after the draft .
St. Louis / Los Angeles Rams
At the Rams, Cunningham played a total of four seasons. He was used by the Rams as a so-called third-down-back and kick returner and came to a total of 748 yards in 171 runs . He also caught 93 balls for 752 yards and got 2,575 yards with 95 kick returns . Overall, Cunningham was able to record 5 touchdowns .
Cunningham moved with the Rams to Los Angeles before the 2016 season and changed his shirt number in this context . He wore the number 36 for his three seasons in St. Louis and moved to number 23 in Los Angeles . However, Cunningham had to end the 2016 season prematurely on December 15, 2016 due to neck problems .
After the 2016 season, Cunningham's contract with the Rams expired, who did not renew it because it would have been too expensive for them to extend it. They left Cunningham and found a replacement in Lance Dunbar .
Chicago Bears
Cunningham signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears on March 21, 2017 . On April 2, 2018, his contract with the Bears was extended for another year.
Jacksonville Jaguars
After the contract expired, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed him , where he joined the team as the sixth running back.
