Bentley 6½ liter
The Bentley 6 ½ liter and its high-performance variant Bentley Speed Six were car models from the manufacturer Bentley . They were created between 1926 and 1930 from the chassis and body superstructures offered by Bentley from various wheelwright businesses, including Gurney Nutting and Surbico .
As the superstructures ordered by customers kept getting bigger, the engine of the 3-liter model reached its performance limits. The 6 ½ liter should meet these requirements. This model was a 6½-liter six-cylinder, with OHC valve control and four valves and two spark plugs per cylinder.
The sport version with higher compression and two SU carburettors was called Speed Six . In 1929 and 1930, the Speed Six version of the 6½ liter Le Mans won. The vehicle was very successful in racing, but did not bring the expected sales figures, which is why Bentley had to expand the model range by the 4½ liter .
The annual production of the 6½ liter was between 90 and 150. The drop in sales in 1931 was dramatic - only three chassis were delivered within six months. The 6½ liter was available in seven chassis variants, with a total of 544 chassis being produced.
