The Bentley 4 liter was a car model made by the manufacturer Bentley . The vehicles were built between 1931 and 1933 from the chassis and body superstructures offered by Bentley from various wheelwright shops.
The change from road-going racing cars to sporty touring limousines that began with the 8 liter was continued with the 4 liter . The new model should win new customers in the upper-class touring sedan market segment with superior performance. For this purpose, the chassis of the Bentley 8 liter was slightly modified and provided with an IOE engine developed by Ricardo , which, however, did not meet the requirements of the customers.
At £ 1,225, the chassis of the 4 liter was £ 175 more expensive than the standard 4½ liter and around £ 75 more expensive than the 4½ liter supercharged ("Blower"), which was priced at £ 1,475 in January 1931 Had lowered £ 1,150.
The first Bentley 4 liter was registered in May 1931, the last in June 1933. Even after Bentley Motors went bankrupt in July 1931, the 4 liter continued to be produced under the leadership of the new owner, Rolls-Royce . A total of 50 chassis were created, 11 of them with an extended wheelbase (140 instead of 134 inches).
