The Continental Flying Spur is a limousine offered by the Volkswagen AG subsidiary Bentley . The name Flying Spur is derived from the family crest of the coach and body builder Mulliner , who bodyworked the first Rolls-Royce and Bentley models and was bought in 1959. The coat of arms shows, among other things, a winged spur .
The Continental Flying Spur is the second Bentley with this designation. From 1957, HJ Mulliner & Co. and HJ Mulliner, Park Ward Ltd. a high-priced four-door sports sedan based on the S1 Continental , which was continued in the S2 and S3 series until 1966. In addition, the Continental Flying Spur is the second Bentley series that was developed under Volkswagen direction and partly built in 2006 in the Transparent Factory in Dresden . The entire Continental series, which includes the Flying Spur, the Coupé GT and the Cabriolet GTC , is related to the VW Phaeton , but has a higher-quality interior and an exclusive six-liter twin-turbo W12. All models have permanent all-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension as standard .
The Bentley Continental GT is the coupé version, the Bentley Continental GTC is the convertible version of the Continental Flying Spur.
Facelift
The Flying Spur, which was slightly modified for the 2009 model year, has been delivered since October 2008.
The exterior received modified front and rear aprons and an upright radiator grille. In order to better keep the engine and wind noise away from the interior, the insulation of the body and the windows has been reinforced. The technical innovation is the optimized adaptive cruise control .
Model variants
Bentley Continental Flying Spur Qatar Edition
This strictly limited special model was developed together with Al Wajba Motors , the official Bentley dealer in Qatar. The body is painted gray and has narrow, red lines on the sides. All exterior elements, which were originally chrome-plated , were painted black. The interior is equipped with black and white leather with red stitching. The engine remained unchanged compared to the normal Continental Flying Spur.
Bentley Continental Flying Spur Speed
As part of the facelift, the Flying Spur series was expanded to include the more powerful Continental Flying Spur Speed variant . The addition of speed illustrates the brand's sporty roots with the legendary speed models of the early years. In the Speed version, not only have the performance been increased and the driving performance improved (see technical data), but the body has also been lowered by ten millimeters. A chrome-plated lower air inlet, wider tailpipes, 20-inch light alloy wheels in Speed design and a 3-spoke sports steering wheel also visually distinguish the Speed model.
With a top speed of 322 km / h, the Flying Spur Speed is the fastest production sedan in the world.
