successor Bentley T1

The Bentley S3 is a superclass -Pkw model of Bentley . In the standard version with factory body, the vehicle was produced as a four-door sedan from 1962 to 1965. The premiere took place at the Mondial de l'Automobile in October 1962.

Differences to the predecessor

The main external difference to the predecessor S2 was the new front design, now with four instead of two headlights. This also represented the transition to the completely renewed design of the successor T1 . With the new headlights, the output was increased from 120 to 150 watts, whereby the illumination was increased by about 230 meters and the dispersion of the low beam could be improved.

In addition to the new headlight design, the front changed with the radiator grille being 1.5 inches (approx. 3.8 cm) lower; redesigned fenders with separate indicators (previously integrated in the additional headlights), as well as reduced bumper covers (also at the rear).

In the interior, the S3 was equipped with individual seats for the driver and front passenger, and the dashboard was also equipped with padded impact protection. In the rear, the bench seat was moved back 2 inches (approx. 5 cm) to increase legroom and equipped with modified shoulder padding.

The 6.2-liter V8 engine of the predecessor was slightly revised, with larger carburettors and a compression ratio increased from 8: 1 to 9: 1, the output was increased by 7 percent. The power steering was also improved and could now be operated with less steering force.

S3 Continental

As in the case of its predecessor, Bentley also offered a sporty special version called the Continental for the S3. Bentley only supplied the ready-to-drive chassis; the structure was contributed by independent body construction companies on behalf of customers. S3 bodies were made by Mulliner Park Ward and James Young.
