Berchtold Holding is a medical technology company in Tuttlingen, which has specialized in the area of surgical accessories and is one of the world's leading companies there. Today it is a division of the Stryker Corporation .
history
The company was founded in 1922 by Theodor Berchtold as a surgical mechanical company in Nendingen near Tuttlingen . Together with his brother, he expanded the small business . Since Nendingen was still an agricultural village at that time, the Nendingen local council refused to expand the business, so the expansion took place in Ludwigstaler Strasse in Tuttlingen. In 1956 the founder's son-in-law, Eduard Fritz, took over management. The world's first heart transplant in December 1967 in Cape Town was performed under a Berchtold lighting system . Eduard's son Theo Fritz has been running the company since 1984. Thanks to him, the company was able to establish itself on the world market in the surgical lighting segment. In 2014 Berchtold was sold to Stryker for the equivalent of 124 million euros. Berchtold is a member of the trade association for industrial companies in Baden .
Locations
In addition to the main location in Tuttlingen, production as well as research and development take place primarily in Switzerland and the USA ( Flower Mound (Texas) & Charleston (South Carolina) ). There are also smaller offices in Malaysia (Sungai Buloh [ Selangor ]), France ( Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport ), China ( Pudong ), Spain ( Tres Cantos ), India ( Ghaziabad ), Japan ( Chūō (Tokyo) ), Great Britain ( Newbury (Berkshire) ) and Italy ( Milan ).
Products
