Friedrich Buchmayr

Friedrich Buchmayr (* 1959 in Linz ) is an Austrian author , librarian , Germanist and publicist .

Life

Book Mayr studied German literature and media studies at the University of Salzburg and his PhD in 1986 in Salzburg with a thesis on the hit as a caricature of the folk song, presented at the 'Wiener Song' from 1800 to 1914 .

Since 1987 he has been a librarian in the St. Florian Abbey Library , and since 2003 he has also worked on the project “Upper Austria. Landesmuseum 1938–1955 / Special order Linz ”from the University of Linz , which deals with the problem of looted art in Upper Austria . He is also the editor of the yearbook of the Adalbert Stifter Institute of the State of Upper Austria and has been a member of the jury of the city of Linz's literary yearbook "Facetten" since 1996 .

Buchmayr emerged with numerous works on library and recent literary history , in 2003 also with a biography of the Viennese church historian Johannes Hollnsteiner , a friend of the Austrian Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg .

In the history of literature, August Strindberg's relations with Austria are one of his focal points. In addition to his publications in this area, he also conceived the exhibition The Other World - August Strindberg in Upper Austria (Linz and Stockholm , 1993), and on his initiative and according to his conception, the only Strindbergmuseum outside Sweden , the Strindbergmuseum Saxen in the market town, was created Saxen in Upper Austria . This museum was awarded the Swedish Strindberg Prize in 1998.
