geography

Geographical location

Ludwigstal is located near the Danube , directly on the slope to the Leutenberg, at 638  m .

history

Ludwigstal was founded in the Tuttlingen city area in 1694 with the opening of the Schwäbische Hüttenwerke by the Württemberg Duke Eberhard Ludwig and then named after him. The site was chosen because it was not right in the city but right on the Danube and on the fields between Tuttlingen and Nendingen and on the Hegau -Hochfläche bean ore can be found in raw, naked form.

Between 1827 and 1831 the future economic politician Ferdinand von Steinbeis was a hut clerk in the Ludwigstal.

Until 1880, the Ludwigstal was seen as an independent village under the administration of Tuttlingen, which was mainly due to the relatively remote location to the city itself. It is 2.5 kilometers from the former outskirts (at the St. Gallus church) and 2 2 kilometers from Nendingen . Today the Ludwigstal belongs to the core city of Tuttlingen. The Ludwigstal has been connected to the urban area since the 1990s, which happened through the creation of the industrial area Rudolf-Diesel- Strasse / Gewerbegebiet Nord and the construction of the southern bypass "Nendinger-Allee". The Ludwigstal is now only separated from the rest of the city center by the Danube.

In the past, pig iron, furnaces and plates were mainly cast in the Swabian Hüttenwerke in Ludwigstal. Until the 1990s, special objects such as family crests were cast and later refined by hand. As a result of a comprehensive restructuring measure at the Ludwigstal plant, the group has specialized exclusively in internally ventilated brake discs from premium manufacturers (e.g. Porsche , Audi and BMW ) and has thus returned to the strong black. After the casting in Ludwigstal, the brake discs are reworked in the factory built in 2002 in the take-off Neuhausen industrial park . The administration is now in Wasseralfingen .

population

The population of Ludwigtal has always been dependent on the economic success of the smelter. Today the residential area has around 100 inhabitants, with the proportion of foreigners being relatively high.

religion

The Catholic Ludwigstalers used to go to church in Nendingen. This solidarity and closeness also ensured that traditionally many Nendingers work in the smelter.
