Friedrich Christoph Mayer (* 2. November 1762 in Ludwigstal ; † 7. March 1841 in Stuttgart ) was reichsritterschaftlicher bailiff then legal advisor of the Knights Canton Odenwald , later Grand Ducal Hessian Court Council .

Life

Mayer came from Ludwigstal near Tuttlingen . His parents were Jakob Friedrich Mayer († 1809), councilor and mountain administrator in the service of the Prince of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen , and Elisabeth Bez. Friedrich Christoph Mayer studied law at the University of Tübingen . In 1785 he came to Bischofsheim im Kraichgau as an imperial knighthood bailiff of the Lords of Helmstatt , where he lived in the Alexander Castle and in May 1785 married Johanna Henriette Friederike Hartmann (1762-1820). At that time, many poets and humanities scholars frequented the Mayer family, including Johann Heinrich Jung-Stilling and Friedrich von Matthisson . Mayer is said to have dedicated himself to painting and drawing there, while his wife was musically gifted. In 1797 he came to the Lords of Gemmingen in Heilbronn, who also belonged to the knightly canton of Kraichgau, as an imperial knighthood bailiff . In 1803 he became a consultant in the knightly canton of Odenwald of the Franconian knightly circle of the imperial knighthood and moved into the Greckenschloss in Kochendorf . In November 1808 he moved back to Heilbronn for several years. In 1837 he wrote memories from my life , the autograph of which is kept in the German Literature Archive in Marbach am Neckar and which was published in 2007 by the descendant Brigitte Dollinger, née. Mayer (Bietigheim-Bissingen), published as a private print.

The Mayer-Hartmann couple had four sons: Karl Mayer (1786–1870) was a poet, August Mayer (* 1792) was a law student and poet and died in the Russian campaign in 1812, Louis Mayer (1791–1843) was a painter and Fritz Mayer ( 1794–1884) was a businessman who managed the iron and steel works in Wasseralfingen and later the Friedrichshall salt works . The daughter Wilhelmine (1798–1867) was the wife of the Councilor of State August Friedrich von Köstlin and mother of the lawyer Karl von Köstlin , her sister Auguste was the wife of the Heilbronn city schoolmaster Johann Clemens Bruckmann .

politics

From 1815 to 1817 Mayer was a member of the Württemberg Estates Assembly for the Oberamt Heilbronn , where he was one of the main speakers of the opposition and one of the leading "legacy lawyers" who campaigned for the restoration of the Estates constitution of Altwuerttemberg . In 1819 he ran unsuccessfully for the assembly of estates in the Gmünd constituency. In 1830 he was finally elected for the city of Heilbronn in a replacement election for the retired Gottlieb Link in the Württemberg Chamber of Deputies , to which he belonged until 1831.
