The Koppenland is a district in the west of Tuttlingen , which is traversed by the Danube and the Elta .

Surname

Koppenland is originally the name of the hilltop between the Danube, Elta and Krähenbach . The term “koppen” in the field name, which comes from Middle High German , means “suddenly rise and fall”. The residential area was also called trout settlement before a protective dam was built , as these fish could be found in the cellars of the residents when the Danube was regularly flooded .

location

The Koppenland is the only part of the core city of Tuttlingen that is west of the Gäubahn . It is located between the core town in the east, the Möhringen district Möhringen-Vorstadt in the west and the neighboring community of Wurmlingen in the north, at the foot of the 828 meter high wooded Konzenberg .

history

At an altitude of 780 meters, above today's residential buildings, in the “Schanz” forest area, there is the ruin of a mansion from the late Middle Ages, which was called Neu- Wartenberg or Lichtenwartenberg. In 1835, a large spinning mill was built on the Danube , but its operation was discontinued in 1900. A small scattered settlement emerged in the early 1930s. The majority of today's residential development, however, was built in the post-war period , especially the so-called trout settlement as a model settlement , especially for Danube Swabians from 1954 in the lower Koppenland. Until a flood dam was built in the early 1970s, the settlement was severely hit by several floods (June 26, 1953, February 26, 1957 and December 6, 1965). The “Donaufeld” single-family home area has been located in the upper Koppenland since the 1960s.

When the new Tuttlingen train station was built from 1929 to 1931, the bed of the Danube was relocated to the Koppenland over a length of around two kilometers. The Danube was canalized and dammed with weirs, with renaturation measures being carried out since 1995 .

The Koppenland today

In addition to the residential areas, there are many allotment gardens in the Koppenland along the Danube and Elta . Since 2008, the Koppenland has had a large children's playground , which the residents helped to design. There are also extensive park-like open spaces and orchards .

On 15./16. September 1984 the Koppenland celebrated the first Koppenlandfest in the presence of the Lord Mayor Heinz-Jürgen Koloczek ( CDU ). Since then, a large self-organized festival for residents and garden owners has been held every five years. Since 1994 it has been taking place at the historic wash house of the settlement.

There are numerous sports and leisure opportunities in Koppenland: the Tuttlingen outdoor pool , which was renovated in 2005 , a football field in the center of the district and another one belonging to the Protestant parish on the other side of the Danube, the tennis courts of the Rot-Weiss Tuttlingen tennis club and the Tuttlingen Railway Sports Association (ESV), a boules pitch and three beach volleyball courts at the club building of the Turngemeinde Tuttlingen (TG-Heim) and since May 2009 a mountain bike park .

In the “Brühlmühle” residential area on the Elta there is also the last of the once many Tuttlingen tanneries . In addition, EnBW , formerly EVS , has a substation there and various administrative buildings. The TÜV test center is also located in the district at the B 523 motorway slip road.

In the Koppenland there is an abandoned quarry , which is opening up the Pleistocene Danube gravel ( Quaternary ) deposits on Oxford limestone ( White Jura ). There is also a barefoot path in the forest up to Konzenberg . There is also the legendary millstone at the meeting of the district boundaries of Tuttlingen, Wurmlingen and Möhringen. In 2009 the area was expanded to include two benches .

A meadow in the Koppenland also serves as a helicopter landing pad . B. for the Federal Minister of Health Ulla Schmidt ( SPD ) in 2002.
