Berend Jan Udink (born February 12, 1926 in Deventer , Overijssel province ; † May 24, 2016 in Goedereede ) was a Dutch manager and politician of the Christelijk-Historische Unie (CHU) and the Christen-Democratisch Appèl (CDA), which among others Minister and member of the Second Chamber of the States General .

Studies and professional activities

After attending the Hogere Burgerschool in Utrecht , Udink began studying economics at the Rotterdam School of Economics in 1945 , which he completed in June 1952. On April 5, 1967, Udink was appointed by Prime Minister Piet de Jong as Minister without Portfolio in his cabinet . In this he was responsible for matters of development cooperation until the end of de Jong's tenure on July 6, 1971 .

In the parliamentary elections in April 1971, Udink was elected as the CHU's top candidate for a member of the Second Chamber of the States General and was a member of this until July 6, 1971.

During this time he was chairman of the CHU parliamentary group and, as such, also the political leader of the CHU.

On July 6, 1971, he resigned his mandate after Prime Minister Barend Biesheuvel appointed him Minister for Housing and Regional Planning in his cabinet , which he held until the end of Biesheuvel's term of office on May 11, 1973.

In addition, after the resignation of Willem Drees, he was also responsible for transport and water management from July 21, 1972 to May 11, 1973.

After leaving the government, he was appointed commander of the Order of Orange-Nassau on June 8, 1973 because of his political merits .
