Berend Kordes

Berend Kordes (born October 27, 1762 in Lübeck , † February 5, 1823 in Kiel ) was a German philologist and librarian.

Life

Berend Kordes was the son of a Lübeck merchant and attended the Katharineum in Lübeck . From 1783 he studied philology and theology at the University of Kiel and from 1785 at the University of Leipzig , where he graduated with a master's degree. He completed his habilitation in 1787 at the University of Jena and read there as a private lecturer. In 1789 he moved to Kiel. He was initially tutor to the church council and theology professor Samuel Gottfried Geyser and held lectures at the university as a private lecturer. In 1792 he was appointed associate professor and sub-librarian of the Kiel University Library in Kiel . In 1810 he was the sole librarian of this library.
