The Beresan (Ukrainian Березань ) is a 49 km long tributary to the Black Sea in southern Ukraine . The catchment area of ​​the Beresan is 890 km² and its gradient is 1.5 m / km. The river is 5 m wide and 1.2 to 1.5 m deep.

The Beresan rises near the village of Starooleksijiwka ( Староолексіївка ) in Wesselynowe district in Mykolaiv Oblast . He then flows into a trapezoid, 2 km wide valley to the west of the Oblast in the south and forms after 49 kilometers south of Netschajane ( Нечаяне ) in Mykolaiv Raion the Berezan Estuary , which in Ochakiv in the Black Sea flows.

history

In ancient times, the river was in Sarmatia and was named Sagaris. In the 19th century, the Beresan colonist district of Black Sea German colonists was located on the Beresan . From 1809 to 1820 7 Catholic and 4 Protestant mother colonies ( Karlsruhe , Katharinental , Landau , Munich , Rastatt , Rohrbach , Speyer , Sulz (today destroyed), Waterloo and Worms ) were founded here.
