The mountain hellerkraut ( Noccaea montana , syn .: Thlaspi montanum L.), also known as mountain pocket herb , is a species of the cruciferous family (Brassicaceae). It is rare in Central Europe .

description

The Berg-Hellerkraut grows as an evergreen , perennial herbaceous plant and reaches a height of about 10 to 25 cm. It has a thin, branched basic axis that usually crawls underground. Flowering and sterile rosettes form at the tips of the shoots. With a length of about 2 to 5 cm, the egg to spatulate leaves are narrowed into a more or less long stalk. The leaf margin is slightly serrated. The sterile rosettes bloom in the second year. One or more unbranched, round, bare, usually upright flower stems grow per rosette . The three to eight seated stem leaves are heart-shaped with a length of about 0.5 to 2 cm.

The Berg-Hellerkraut flowers mainly from April to May. The inflorescence is at the beginning umbelliferous , later it extends the inflorescence axis to a length of up to 15 cm to the racemose inflorescence. The sepals are elliptically shaped with a length of about 2 to 3 mm, green with a white skin edge and more or less spreading. The spatulate with a length of about 5 to 8 mm petals are more than twice as long as the sepals.

The pods, which stand on about 5 to 10 mm long, horizontally protruding stems, are about 5 to 8 mm in length and 4 to 7 mm in width, round-inverted heart-shaped and are winged about 1.5 mm wide at the tip. There are about one to five seeds in each seed compartment.

The species has chromosome number 2n = 28.

Occurrence

General distribution

Thlaspi montanum grows in a heavily fragmented area that extends from the Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland to Spain. It is a pre-alpine floral element . In Austria this species occurs sparsely or rarely and is potentially endangered. In Switzerland, Thlaspi montanum is found in the area from Vaud to Schaffhausen .

Distribution in Germany

The mountain Hellerkraut is rare in Germany. The main area of distribution is the Swabian Alb , where it can be found scattered, as well as Thuringia and northern Bavaria.

Location requirements

Berg-Hellerkraut grows in dry and pine-steppe forest societies, especially those of the Erico-Pinion or Quercion pubescentis associations, but it also occurs in societies of the Brometalia order or the Berberidion association. It prefers fresh to fresh, nutrient-poor, loose, shallow limestone soils. It rises up to 1008 meters above sea level on the Hochberg near Wehingen.
