Berg is the name of an originally Baltic noble family .

history

The family is said to come from Westphalia, the line-up begins in Livonia around 1500 with Otto von Berg . In 1745 the family enrolled with the Estonian knighthood , and in 1747 with the Livonian knighthood .

Friedrich von Berg was raised to the rank of Austrian count in 1849 . In 1856 he also became a Finnish count, which the same year was transferred to his nephews Friedrich , Alexander and Georg von Berg . These were introduced to the count class of the Finnish knighthood in 1857 (No. 11).

The family is also called Berg adH Kattentack after their ancestral estate and is to be distinguished in particular from Berg adH Carmel and Berg adH Kandel, which can also be found in historical Estonia . These two sexes also have a black eagle in their shields, which does not exclude a tribal relationship, but this has not been proven. In addition to Kattentack in the Wiek , before 1818 they owned the estates of Jerwakant , Jöggis , Kaltenborn , Koik, Luist , Orrenhof , Pall, Pallifer , Stenhusen and Turpel in Estonia .

coat of arms
