The West Mine of Deutsche Steinkohle AG (DSK) was created in 2001 through the merger of the independent mines Friedrich Heinrich ( Kamp-Lintfort ) and Rhineland with the Niederberg mine .
The last shift took place on December 21, 2012; on December 31, 2012 the mine was closed.
Mining history
The summary was made mostly mine field technically concentration of funding on the conveyor Friedrich Heinrich 1/2. The plant was initially run under the name Friedrich Heinrich / Rheinland, and later renamed 'Bergwerk West' after the merger with Niederberg.
The Rhineland mine, which consisted of the Pattberg 1/2 , Rossenray 1/2 , Rheinpreußen 8, Rheinpreußen 9 and Rheinberg pits, was split up. The northern and western mine fields with the Pattberg and Rossenray pits were connected to Friedrich Heinrich. The Pattberg 1/2 shaft was shut down as a conveyor system and the shafts were later filled (demolition of the Pattberg 1 headframes in 1995 and Pattberg 2 in 1998). The Ostfeld and Nordostfeld with the shafts Rheinpreußen 8 and 9 as well as Rheinberg were connected to the Walsum mine in Duisburg.
In 2001 the Niederberg colliery in Neukirchen-Vluyn was connected to the West mine. The Niederberg 1/2/5 mining location with the Niederberg 3 and 4 ancillary facilities was abandoned and shut down.
In 2002 resistance began to oppose plans to mine coal under the Rhine and then build complex dikes to the left and right of the sunken river bed.
On January 29, 2007, the state governments and the federal government (at that time a black-red coalition ( Merkel I cabinet )) agreed to withdraw from hard coal mining. The state of North Rhine-Westphalia (at that time ruled by a black-yellow coalition under Jürgen Rüttgers ( Rüttgers cabinet )) reserved a 'revision clause' (more details here ).
Today the West Mine comprises the Friedrich Heinrich 1/2 conveyor and cable car shaft, the Friedrich Heinrich 4 cable car and weather shaft and the Rossenray 1/2 mountain conveyor and cable car shaft . The further planning of the mine is in the area of dismantling the western and northern parts of the field in the area of the Friedrich Heinrich 4 shaft and around the Rossenray mine. In 2006, the southern were mines around Frederick Henry Schacht abandoned 3, after completion of the underground salvage work of the bay in 2007 was filled .
After the Walsum mine was closed in 2008, the Rheinberg construction site was not taken over due to the controversial reduction in coal reserves under the Rhine . The annual production of the West Mine was 3.2 million tons. In 2009 around 4,200 people were employed. The last shift took place on December 21, 2012, and the mine was closed on December 31, 2012. At the time of the shutdown, 1560 employees were still working in the West mine, around 1000 of whom are moving to other RAG collieries.
In 2012 around 2.5 million tons were extracted. The highest annual amount was extracted in 1993: around 4.17 million tons.
The West Mine was the fourth last active mine of the RAG until its closure.
