The ridge of the Berkshire Mountains lies in the western part of the US states of Massachusetts and Connecticut .
It extends in a north-south direction to the west of the Connecticut River flowed through Pioneer Valley and east along the border with New York running Taconic Mountains . The northern continuation in Vermont are the Green Mountains .
