Berlin is a city ( town ) in Worcester County in the US state of Maryland . It has 3491 inhabitants and a population density of 612.7 inhabitants / km². The Atlantic General Hospital is in town .
geography
Berlin lies on a peninsula between the bays Chesapeake Bay and Delaware Bay between Virginia and Delaware . The city lies on the Battle Creek , Kitts Branch, and a few other small streams. The city borders the Atlantic Ocean and has many bays, including Sinepuxent Bay . Berlin also has a lot of districts, including Germantown. It is 190 kilometers south of Philadelphia , 190 kilometers north of Virginia Beach and 170 kilometers southeast of the capital Washington DC. The city area is 5.7 km² . In addition, the Assateague State Park is also still on parts of the community area.
history
The village was founded in 1677. The Burleigh Inn , which was on Philadelphia Post Road (now South Main Street) and Sinepuxent Road (now Tripoli Street), gave the village its name. In 1868 Berlin grew and became more and more popular for tourists, mainly because of hunting and fishing. Stephen Decatur was born in Berlin in the 18th century . Berlin is known to film audiences as a backdrop. In The Bride Who Doesn't Dare , Berlin is the backdrop for the fictional town of Hale, Maryland, the hometown of Maggie Carpenter Julia Roberts .
Nine buildings and sites in Berlin are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of September 21, 2018).
