Bernadette "Berni" Rauter (born August 8, 1949 in Breitenwang ) is a former Austrian ski racer . She won three world cup races in her career and took part in the Winter Olympics twice.

biography

Rauter started skiing at an early age. After success in school and youth races, she was accepted into the squad of the Austrian Ski Association in 1965. In the winter of 1966/67 she won five FIS races and was already among the top ten in two slaloms in the then new Ski World Cup . In the following year, Rauter took part in the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble and finished eighth as the best Austrian in slalom. One month later she achieved her best World Cup placement in this discipline with fourth place in the last downhill of the season in Aspen .

Towards the end of the 1968/69 season , Rauter made his breakthrough to the top of the world. In the Squaw Valley slalom , she won her first World Cup race on February 28, and the day after she was third in the giant slalom. She celebrated another victory in the giant slalom in Waterville Valley on March 20th. Thus she reached fifth place in the Giant Slalom World Cup, sixth place in the slalom ranking and tenth place in the overall World Cup. The next winter , Rauter won the Oberstaufen slalom and took third place in both the Lienz and Maribor slaloms , placing fourth in the Slalom World Cup, tied with Canadian Betsy Clifford and French Britt Lafforgue . At the 1970 World Cup in Val Gardena , however, she did not reach any top positions and was only ninth in slalom and 15th in giant slalom.

In the 1970/71 season , Rauter's best result was second place in the Maribor slalom. With numerous other placements among the top ten, she came eighth in the Slalom World Cup and eleventh in the giant slalom classification at the end of the season. In the following winter , however, she did not achieve a single top ten result in these disciplines, but she came in four times in the top ten in the downhill, whereby she qualified in this discipline for the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo and took ninth place there. During the 1972/73 season , Rauter was again without a top result and only got World Cup points in two runs. At the end of winter, she announced her retirement from ski racing.
