Bernard Rogers

Bernard Rogers (born February 4, 1893 in New York City , † May 24, 1968 in Rochester / New York ) was an American composer .

Rogers studied with Arthur Farwell , Ernest Bloch , Nadia Boulanger and Frank Bridge . From 1929 to 1967 he taught composition at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. His students included William Bergsma , David Diamond , Peter Mennin , John Diercks , Walter Hartley , Gardner Read , H. Owen Reed , Ulysses Kay, and John Weinzweig .

He composed five operas , five symphonies and other orchestral works, chamber music , three cantatas , choral works and songs .

In 1947 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters .
