Bernardino Landete Navarro (born December 29, 1925 in Madrid , † September 26, 2010 in Alicante ) was a Spanish equestrian and mounted bullfighter ( Rejoneador ). He worked mainly in the 3rd quarter of the 20th century, for a long time in Ecuador , where he was active in show jumping and especially in the bullfighting world through the invention of the so-called par del violín (a way of putting the pair of banderillas on the violin remembered and was later introduced in unrestrained bullfighting) gained in importance.

biography

As the son of the dentist and horse lover Juan Landete, he took lessons in dressage , high school and show jumping from the military riding instructors Julio Xifra and Antenor Betancourt in Madrid from 1931 . After the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939 (in which Xifra fell) he took up lessons with Betancourt again. In 1952 he began mounted bullfighting and proved himself to be an excellent rider who had mastered bullfighting, making him one of the best of his kind in a very short time. In 1954 he was selected together with the Rejoneador Ángel Peralta for shooting the film That Lady by Terence Young .

He made his debut in Madrid on March 13, 1955. On that day he performed the par del violín he had invented , which made him famous. "The horse polo gave me the idea that you could attack the bull from the left, like the ball in polo."

In 1958 he traveled to Guayaquil , Ecuador and married. That year he performed at the bullfighting festivals in Ecuador and Colombia. Two years later he was assigned the first bull at the inauguration of the Arena Plaza Monumental in Quito . In the same year he founded the Cayambe equestrian club, which was mainly dedicated to show jumping.

In 1968 he won second place in the South American show jumping competitions in Caracas and a year later for Ecuador the first place in the team competition in Buenos Aires as well as the second place in the individual competition.

After returning to Spain, he married his second wife in 1974. In Barajas (Madrid) he founded a riding school and a little later the Barajas equestrian club. In 1975 he gave up bullfighting and in 1999 he gave up any professional activity to retire with his family in 2000 in Torrellano (Alicante).
