Bernardo da Corleone (born February 6, 1605 in Corleone , Sicily , † January 12, 1667 in Palermo ) was an Italian Capuchin and is a saint of the Catholic Church .

He was born as Filippo Latino in Corleone and first learned the shoemaking trade from his father Leonardo. The boy tended to get involved in scuffles, in particular he was ready to draw his sword even in the event of minor provocation. When he was nineteen he severely wounded a stranger with his sword. However, this stranger became a friend to him. Shaped by this experience (1624), he turned more and more to religion. On December 13th he finally entered the Capuchin order as a novice under the name Bernardo.

He first wandered from one monastery of his order to another. He came to Bisacquino , Bivona , Castelvetrano , Burgio , Partinico , Agrigent , Chiusa , Caltabellotta , Polizzi , Salemi and Monreale . He spent the last fifteen years of his life in Palermo. Within the order, he was active in a large number of everyday tasks in the monastery, in particular he took care of the sick. In addition, he attracted attention through intense prayer as well as penance and asceticism. He is said to have brought about inexplicable healings through his intercession during his lifetime.

He was beatified on May 5, 1768. On June 10, 2001, Pope John Paul II canonized him . His feast day is January 12th .
