Bernardus Chapel (Willscheid)
The Bernardus Chapel in Willscheid , a district of the Vettelschoss community in the Neuwied district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in 1683. The chapel is located at the intersection of Landesstraße 252 and Kreisstraße 25. The St. Bernhard consecrated chapel stands as since 1996 a cultural monument under monument protection .
history
The chapel was probably built in place of a previous building mentioned in a visit report in 1570 . The Heisterbach monks are presumed to be the builders , which is supported by the church patron , one of the most important monks of the Cistercian order , and the location of the chapel between the Cistercian branches of Heisterbach and St. Katharinen . At the end of the Second World War, the chapel suffered severe damage.
architecture
The half-timbered building is six meters long and has a flat wooden ceiling. A semicircular choir is located on the east side. On the roof sits a ridge turret with a hood , which is crowned by a wrought-iron cross and a weathercock . A bell from 1785 hangs in the tower . A wooden figure of St. Bernhard from the 17th century and a clay figure of St. Anna adorned.
