Bernd Brexendorf (born October 21, 1954 in Bremerhaven ) is a former German soccer player , coach and current doctor .

Life

The midfielder Brexendorf was already in Werder Bremen's squad as an 18-year-old . On September 8, 1973 he made his debut in the Bundesliga . In the home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach he was substituted on in the 80th minute when the score was 2-2, but could not prevent Bremen from losing with a goal by Jupp Heynckes shortly before the end. In his first season in Bremen he made five more Bundesliga appearances, but he was only allowed to play the full 90 minutes in one game (in Cologne ). It was similar for him in the second season at Werder: four substitutions and substitutions, one game (in Bochum ) over 90 minutes.

In 1977/78 he played at OSC Bremerhaven and the following season at Westfalia Herne , before - after two more seasons in the second division north - he ended his professional football career at KSV Holstein after eleven first and 140 second division games (24 goals) and focused on his medical career. For the 2007/08 season, FC Schalke 04 signed Brexendorf as the successor to team doctor Thorsten Rarreck, who had retired after nine years. In 2009 he ended his engagement to take a position as chief physician in Hamburg. In addition, he occasionally plays in the traditional team of OSC Bremerhaven. From June 2012 to the end of 2014 Brexendorf acted as the team doctor for the Bundesliga soccer club Hannover 96 .
