Bernd Helmschrot , (born March 18, 1947 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper . In his active career he played 107 games in the Bundesliga and 277 games in the second division . In 1968 he was used twice in the amateur national team .

Player career

Helmschrot played for Hannover 96 when he was young . Since 1965 he was part of the amateur team in the Lower Saxony State League. In 1967 he moved up as a reserve goalkeeper in the Bundesliga team. He made his debut on February 17, 1968 under the new coach Karl-Heinz Mülhausen in the game against Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga. The game ended 2-2. The following nine games in the season was Helmschrot in the goal of the Reds. The actual reserve goalkeeper Horst Grunenberg was only used in the last two games .

Helmschrot made a total of 48 Bundesliga appearances for Hanover by 1971. During this time he also made two appearances in the German amateur national team . He also made three appearances for Hanover in the trade fair cup . He was a licensed player since 1968.

After not being able to displace Hanover's goalkeeper Horst Podlasly , he moved to TSV 1860 Munich in 1971 . He also played 68 Bundesliga games for the "Löwen". In the 1973/74 season he was the goalkeeper of Offenbacher Kickers , where he was in goal in 25 games. Then he moved to the second division for TSR Olympia Wilhelmshaven . However, he returned to Offenbach after just one season and played 146 games in the 2nd Bundesliga for the OFC.

In 1979 he moved to SC Viktoria Köln , for which he played 67 second division games until 1981. From 1982 to 1984 he played for SC Fortuna Köln . With Fortuna, he reached the DFB Cup final in 1983, which was lost to 1. FC Köln; he came to another 60 inserts in the second division. Then he let his active career in the Oberliga Nord end at TSR Olympia Wilhelmshaven , where he was still in goal in 57 league games.

In the 1996/97 season he worked as a goalkeeper coach for the regional division Wilhelmshaven 92, as SV Wilhelmshaven called itself at times.
