Bernd Schlesinger
Bernd Schlesinger (* 1959) is a German volleyball trainer . He currently looks after the men of SVG Lüneburg in the German Volleyball Bundesliga as an assistant coach.
Successful years in indoor and beach volleyball
Bernd Schlesinger has many years of experience in training indoor teams for women and men. The first big success was the rise of the women of TV Fischbek in 1991 to the 2nd Bundesliga. He later moved to the men of Hamburger SV as the successor to Olaf Kortmann .
His name is inextricably linked with the cup victory of the 1st VC Hamburg - the successor club of the HSV men - which he led to the German Cup victory in 1993/94 as a coach .
After a year as a coach at 1. SC Norderstedt , Schlesinger was the sports director of the volleyball boarding school in Frankfurt-Hoechst for many years and promoted the next generation of volleyball players for seven years. In March 1999, his juniors surprisingly won the silver medal at the World Championships in Poland.
From 2004 to 2010 he coached the men of Oststeinbeker SV , with whom he was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga, but after a year of first class he was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga.
After a six-month break in his coaching activities, he has been active as assistant coach of the SVG Lüneburg in the men's 1st division since January 2011 .
In parallel to his work as indoor trainer, Bernd Schlesinger looked after the beach volleyball national teams Stephanie Pohl / Okka Rau and Julius Brink / Christoph Dieckmann for a long time . Since 2014 he has been the coach of the Markus Böckermann / Lars Flüggen team , with whom he qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
Time as an active person
Before his time as a volleyball player, Schlesinger was active as a track and field athlete. In 1978 he took 6th place as a decathlete at the German A-Youth Championships. As a member of the German B-team he trained with greats such as Jürgen Hingsen , Siegfried Wentz and Guido Kratschmer. His athletics trainer at the time brought him to volleyball.
