Hartmann has been teaching data processing in various courses since the mid-1950s and has published about it. During study trips to the USA with visits to relevant university institutes and to companies that were considered to be innovative users of the first commercially used computers, empirical material was systematically collected. The monograph "Business Basics of Automated Data Processing", published in 1961, is the first scientific work to document the awareness of a specific problem area from which business informatics originated. It is therefore appropriate to see Hartmann as one of the pioneers, promoters and founders of business informatics.
