Bernhard Hasler
Bernhard Hasler (* 1884 in Schreckendorf , district of Habelschwerdt , province of Silesia ; † 1945 in Bad Oldesloe , Schleswig-Holstein ) was a German painter, graphic artist and drawing teacher.
Life
Bernhard Hasler was born in the County of Glatz . His parents were the conductor Franz Hasler, who came from Obersteine , and Johanna, née Tschimmel from Schreckendorf. It is not known when he left his hometown. Probably in 1906 or 1907 he went to Berlin. A self-portrait is known from 1908.
In Berlin he was a student of Emil Orlik and Lovis Corinth . From 1913 he taught as a teacher at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin . He was one of the co-founders of the November Group . In 1914 he was awarded the Villa Romana Prize as a full member of the German Association of Artists . Because of the outbreak of the First World War, however, he was unable to travel to Florence.
In the 1920s Hasler created numerous Berlin motifs, among other things. They are among the best paintings in Berlin and were exhibited annually in the Prussian Academy of Arts . These works were also received positively at the Great Watercolor Exhibition in Dresden in 1929. At an academy exhibition in 1940 he was represented with three works. Then his track was lost.
At the end of the war in 1945, Bernhard Hasler was the victim of a bomb attack in Bad Oldesloe. His body was buried in the Oldesloer Old Cemetery. Most of his works are now in private hands.
The catalog published for the memorial exhibition in 1955 in the Berlin-Wedding town hall lists 70 works. 15 paintings and graphics were shown in the catalog.
