Bernhard Paul Lampe (born February 25, 1947 in Parchim ; † August 11, 2017 ) was a German engineer and professor of control engineering at the Institute for Automation Technology at the University of Rostock .

Life

Bernhard Lampe was born in Parchim in 1947 as the son of a doctor. He attended the extended high school in Parchim, which he graduated from high school in 1965. After studying mathematics at the University of Rostock from 1965 to 1970 with a degree in mathematics and as a research student from 1969 to 1972 he received his doctorate in 1973 at Lothar Berg to Dr. rer. nat. with a thesis in the field of analysis .

From 1972 to 1986 he was assistant and senior assistant at the technical electronics section at Rostock University. 1984 followed the habilitation to the Dr. sc. techn. (Doctor scientiae technicarum) in control engineering. From 1986 to 1987 he was delegated to the Shipbuilding Institute belonging to the Rostock Combine for practical work. From 1987 to 1991 he was a lecturer in control theory in the technical electronics section. With the re-establishment of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Rostock (1989–1992) and the establishment of the Institute for Automation Technology, Bernhard Lampe held the chair for control engineering from 1992 until his retirement in 2012 and was also the founding director of the institute until 1994. In addition, he was visiting professor at the TU Hamburg-Harburg from 1992 to 1994 .

After his retirement, he continued to work as a senior professor at Rostock University from 2013 to 2017 . He was the first professor at Rostock University to receive this designation.

His main research areas were the theory and application of modern control methods, especially digital controls; periodic control systems; Multi-variable controls and control systems with dead time. His scientific achievements have been awarded the title Dr. H. c. of the Marine Technical University (MTU) St. Petersburg .

Bernhard Lampe was married and the father of four children. He died at the age of 71 after a serious illness.
