Bernhard Parisius (born June 7, 1950 in Oldenburg ) is a German historian and archivist .

Life

Bernhard Parisius studied history , German literature and social sciences at the Georg-August-Universität in Göttingen , where he received his doctorate in 1982 with a study on the labor movement in the Duchy of Oldenburg supervised by Helga Grebing . During his doctoral thesis, he worked at the Göttingen office to research the history of the labor movement in Lower Saxony after 1945, was a scholarship holder at the Leibniz Institute for European History in Mainz and, from 1980 to 1982, was a research assistant at the University of Essen in the research project “History of Life” led by Lutz Niethammer and social culture in the Ruhr area 1930–1960 ”. In 1982 he switched to the modern history department at the Fernuniversität in Hagen (Niethammer chair) as a research assistant .

In 1984 Parisius became an archive trainee at the State Archive of Münster (today: State Archive North Rhine-Westphalia, Westphalia Department ), then advisor at the Hessian Main State Archive in Wiesbaden , in 1993 deputy head of the State Archive Osnabrück and in 1995 head of the State Archive Aurich (today: Lower Saxony State Archive, Aurich site ). He has been teaching at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg since 1996 , where he completed his habilitation in the field of modern history in 2002 and was appointed as a private lecturer . In 2007 he was appointed honorary professor .

Parisius is the scientific director of the " Gnadenkirche Tidofeld - Documentation Center for the Admission of Refugees and Displaced Persons in Lower Saxony and Northwest Germany" and scientific advisor to the "Foundation Economic Archives North-West Lower Saxony " in Emden .

His research focuses on the history of East Frisia and the social and migration history , especially Lower Saxony , Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia .

Bernhard Parisius is the editor of the Emden yearbook for historical regional studies of East Frisia and is co-editor of the two series "Treatises and researches on East Frisian history" and "Sources on the history of East Frisia" published together with the East Frisian Landscape . As archive manager - often in close cooperation with the East Frisian landscape - he has established a regional network that includes cultural institutions, municipal and economic facilities. Together with the East Frisian Landscape, he has launched annual events on East Frisian history , including a series of lectures, the Day of East Frisian History and the School Prize for East Frisian History and Culture. Important research and development projects he (co) initiated and supervised are the databases "Resistance and persecution in East Frisia during the Nazi era" and "Inventory of the economic history of East Frisia, the northern Emsland and the province of Groningen in the 19th and 20th centuries" , the historical database of East Friesland and the "Digital Document Book Groningen, Drenthe and East Friesland."

Parisius is a member of the committee of the Historical Commission for Lower Saxony and Bremen and the Historical Commission for Nassau . On October 15, 2015, Bernhard Parisius retired at a ceremony in Aurich.
