Bernhard Plettner (born December 2, 1914 in Oberlahnstein ; † November 2, 1997 in Erlangen ) was a German engineer, manager and entrepreneur.

Life

Bernhard Plettner studied electrical engineering at the Technical University in Darmstadt (today: TU Darmstadt ) after attending the humanistic grammar school in Bad Kreuznach . The desire to round off his theoretical training with practical experience prompted him to interrupt his studies in 1937 and work for a semester as a student trainee at Siemens-Schuckertwerke (SSW) in Berlin and Mülheim / Ruhr.

After completing his studies, the qualified engineer returned to the SSW Industry Department in Berlin in 1940. Here he was initially responsible as a project engineer for the planning and sales of industrial and energy supply systems at home and abroad. After the end of the war, he used his professional experience to rebuild the export business. Six years later he took over the management of the project planning department for the basic industry, which was responsible, among other things, for the construction of the Rourkela iron and steel works in India - the first major export project of the German post-war industry.

In 1959, Bernhard Plettner was appointed to the Management Board of Siemens-Schuckertwerke AG, in 1961 as Deputy Chairman of the Management Board and in 1962 as Chairman of the Management Board. After founding Siemens AG , he was initially a member of the executive committee, then deputy and since 1971 chairman of the board of Siemens AG.

In 1981, Plettner was the first non-family member to become chairman of the supervisory board; he held this position until 1988.
