Bernhard Sutor

Bernhard Sutor (born April 11, 1930 in Waldböckelheim , Bad Kreuznach district ) is a German political scientist (didactics of social studies or political education) and Christian social ethicist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Sobernheim, Sutor studied from 1949 to 1955 at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg . In 1956 he took his first state examination for higher education in the subjects of Latin, history, philosophy and theology, and in 1957 the second state examination for higher education in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate followed. After working as an assessor, he switched to the evening high school of the Bischöflicher Konvikt in Mainz and later to the Mainz Ketteler College . In 1965 he was in Mainz with a thesis on the relationship between philosophy of history and politics at Karl Jaspers graduated . As director of studies, he worked on the renewal of the curriculum and in teacher training in Rhineland-Palatinate. After a teaching position at the University of Mainz, he was in 1978 as a professor to the chair of didactics of civic education and social studies at the History and Social Sciences of the Catholic University appointed . In 1985 the chair was expanded to include the field of Christian social teaching . Bernhard Sutor retired in 1995 . To this end, he received a commemorative publication from colleagues, students and friends entitled Social Ethics and Political Education.

Since 2005 he has headed the Central Institute for Marriage and Family in Society (ZFG) at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. He volunteered in various committees and institutions of church life, such as from 1986 to 1994 as Eichstätter Diocesan Council Chairman and from 1993 to 2001 as Chairman of the State Committee of Catholics in Bavaria .

In 2018 he was made an honorary senator from the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.
