Bernhard Ferdinand Berthold Rudolph Beck , von Beck since 1884 (born September 23, 1863 in Freiburg im Breisgau , Grand Duchy of Baden ; † December 29, 1930 in Karlsruhe , Baden) was a German surgeon .

Life

He came from a family coming from the Allgäu , who started the direct line of roots with the farmer Peter Beck (1657-1752) in Rottach near Immenstadt , and was the son of the surgeon of the same name and general practitioner Bernhard von Beck (1821-1894), who in 1884 in the Baden hereditary nobility with subsequent Prussian approval had been raised, and his second wife Mathilde Freiin von und zu Bodman (1837–1871). His half-brothers from his father's first marriage were the two Prussian lieutenant general Ferdinand von Beck (1850–1933) and Richard von Beck (1851–1909).

Bernhard von Beck studied medicine at the University of Freiburg and became a member of the Corps Rhenania . In 1889 he was to defend his dissertation The osteoplastic resection of the Kreuzsteissbeines to expose the internal female sexual organs behufs total extirpation of the uterus in carcinoma and corresponding other kinds of surgery at the University of Freiburg Dr. med. PhD . Then Beck was an assistant doctor at Heidelberg University Hospital from 1890 to 1897 . In 1897 he was appointed chief physician of the surgical department at the municipal hospital in Karlsruhe. A year later he became its director. Beck organized the construction and operation of the new hospital and campaigned for the construction of the administrative apparatus. He was the actual planner of the hospital facility on Moltkestrasse. Because of his services, he was appointed Privy Councilor .

Beck married Maria Pfeilsticker on April 10, 1897 in Freiburg (born August 3, 1874 in Freiburg; † after 1941). The couple had two daughters.

Honors

Von-Beck-Strasse, named after him, has existed in Karlsruhe since 1957 .
