The Berry College is a private College of Liberal Arts in Mount Berry , Georgia . It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and a member of the Annapolis Group, an organization of more than 120 liberal arts colleges in the country. It was founded in 1902 by Martha Berry and was originally a school to teach disadvantaged young people from the area.

Location and campus

Berry College is located near Rome in northwest Georgia, 59 miles northwest of Atlanta , Georgia, and 85 miles south of Chattanooga , Tennessee . The Berry campus consists of more than 27,000 acres of land - including fields and forests, making it one of the largest contiguous college campuses in the world. Designated areas are open to the public for hiking, biking, horse riding, and other outdoor activities. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources oversees approximately 16,000 acres of the campus. The land that includes the academic buildings and other public spaces is a nature reserve and no hunting is allowed. Berry College has more than 125 km (80 miles) of public walking, biking, and bridle paths.

Work program

Berry College's student work program guarantees every student a job on campus. The work program is based on the original idea of ​​the founder, Martha Berry, that local children would teach for free if they worked on campus. Students are paid based on the level (1-5) they are working at and they are not allowed to work more than 20 hours per week.
