Bert Cameron

Bert Cameron (actually: Bertland Cameron ; born November 16, 1959 in Spanish Town ) is a former Jamaican sprinter whose special route was the 400-meter distance .

After he was eliminated in the quarter-finals at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , Cameron was able to convince at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane for the first time when he won the Australian Rick Mitchell in 45.89 s before the 1980 Olympic runner-up .

At the World Championships in Helsinki in 1983 , he won in 45.05 s ahead of the Americans Michael Franks and Sunder Nix . In the 4 x 400 meter relay , he should be spared in advance. Without him, the Jamaican relay was eliminated in advance.

At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , Cameron was able to qualify for the final, but did not appear due to injury. At the 1987 World Championships in Rome, Cameron was eliminated in the semifinals. The season was sixth in the finals.

In 1988, Cameron took part in the Olympic Games for the third time . In the semifinals he achieved his personal best with 44.50 s. In the final he was sixth in 44.94 s, and his best performance would not have been enough for a medal. As the last runner in the relay, he was able to contribute to winning the silver medal, with 3: 00.30 min the Jamaicans were four seconds behind the US-American world record relay, but clearly ahead of the two German relay from the Federal Republic (bronze) and the GDR ( 4th place).

Bert Cameron is 1.88 m tall and weighed 79 kg during his playing days.
