Bertold Suhner (entrepreneur, 1880)

Bertold Suhner (* 28. August 1880 in Herisau ; † 16th June 1971 ibid ; heimatberechtigt in Urnäsch ) was a Swiss entrepreneur from the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes and honorary citizen of the town of Herisau.

Life

Bertold Suhner was the son of Gottlieb Suhner and Johanna Signer. He was the brother of Otto Suhner . In 1904 Suhner married Frida Lutz, daughter of Ernst Lutz, a businessman. He completed training in his father's company. Then Suhner completed his diploma as an electrical engineer at the Technikum Winterthur . After further training abroad, he built up a lead cable factory in the Brugg branch from 1904 to 1906 . In 1906 he took over the main business in Herisau together with his brother-in-law Julius Robert Hohl. This was the technical director until 1944. Under her leadership, Suhner & Co. became the most important industrial company in Ausserrhoden. Suhner designed most of the machines himself and participated in the development of new materials . From 1915 to 1918 Suhner was a councilor in Herisau.
