Beschorneria tubiflora is a species of the genus Beschorneria in the subfamily of the agave family (Agavoideae). Thespecific epithet tubiflora is derived from the Latin words tubus for 'tube' and -florus for '-blühend'.

description

Beschorneria tubiflora grows stemless or forms short stems. Their rosettes consist of twelve to 20 leaves . The tufted leaves are slightly bent back, linear, thickened at their base and triangular. Below the middle they narrow into a flat and thick false petiole. The leaves are long or pointed, are rough on both sides and have fine longitudinal stripes. The glauk- green to strongly glauke leaf blade is about 30 to 60 centimeters long and 2.5 to 5 (rarely up to 6.25) centimeters wide. The leaf margins are serrated.

The inflorescence reaches a height of about 100 to 120 centimeters. The bright red-purple stem ends in an upright, simple cluster . The up to twelve lanceolate bracts are purple. The hanging flowers stand together in pairs to four. Your free tepals are up to 25 millimeters longer than the stamens . They are reddish green or brownish green or purple and red. Your outside is bald. The ovary is up to 12 millimeters long.

Nothing is known about the fruits and seeds .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 60.

Systematics and distribution

Beschorneria tubiflora is widespread in the Mexican states of San Luis Potosí and Hidalgo in the pine-oak forest.

The first description as Furcraea tubiflora by Karl Sigismund Kunth and Carl David Bouché was published in 1847. Karl Sigismund Kunth placed the species in the genus Beschorneria in 1850 . Beschorneria toneliana Jacobi (no year) and Beschorneria tonelii Jacobi (1874) are included in the species as a synonym .
