occupation

Better than school is a German teen film comedy that was released in cinemas on April 29, 2004 and was also shown on Bavarian television in 2005 . The film received financial support from the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM) , the Filmstiftung NRW and the Filmförderungsanstalt. The main actors Eric Benz , Gabriel Andrade , Thorsten Feller and Melanie Wichterich had previously appeared in various soaps .

action

The film is about Steven (Eric Benz), who fell in love with Dana (Melanie Wichterich). This in turn only has eyes for the pop star Marc (Thorsten Feller), whom his manager sends back to school because he thinks this is a good PR gag.

criticism

"A teen comedy with numerous references to TV soaps, which charges its clichéd plot with a pseudo-critical reflection on youth culture, but tries to use the set pieces only for a pure marketing strategy."

“It couldn't be worse! The directorial debut of Simon X. Rost, once a commercial filmmaker and freelance editor for the "Harald Schmidt Show", who probably wanted to target his first love in the times of the star cult, is flat, trite and badly staged. In contrast to credible teenage films like “ The Class of '99 ”, “ School ” or “ Crazy ”, Rost's protagonists don't feel the fluctuations in their feelings. That is certainly also due to the unbelievable script of the duo Anja Detzner and Christoph Bob Konrad. "
