Best of the Best 3 - No Turning Back (alternative title: Best of the Best III - Gegen den Terror ) is an American martial arts film from 1995. The film is the directorial debut of leading actor Phillip Rhee and a direct sequel to Best of the Best 2 - The Invincible .

action

After the fight against Brakus (in part 2) Tommy Lee decides to leave the martial arts behind and wants to go back to his sister Karen Banning and her husband, the sheriff of the small town of Liberty in the American south. But there has a white power -Gemeinde with religious painting under the leadership of the neo-Nazi - skinheads Donnie Hansen settled. Tommy is just coming into town when the neo-Nazis killed the Reverend Luther Phelps Sr. of the local Baptist church . Tommy's sister Karen Banning has taken in his son Luther Phelps Jr.

Even in town, Tommy is confronted with racist remarks. When he is having an ice cream with his sister, she is attacked by the neo-Nazis, but Tommy is able to save her. The situation escalates again during the Independence Day celebrations when elementary school teacher Margo Preston recognizes her former student Owen Wilson, who has turned into a skinhead. Tommy is able to save the young woman when she is attacked by a group of neo-Nazis. As a result, the two get closer.

At a city meeting, the residents of Liberty try to protect the city from the influences of the right-wing extremist church. Mr. Morgan, who formally runs the church, is refused to buy more land. The Nazis withdrew indignantly, but provoked Tommy a little more. Tommy decides to get to the bottom of the matter and sneaks onto the right-wing extremist compound . There he overhears Hansen killing Mr. Morgan because he wants to throw him out. Hansen, who previously had a stronger influence than Mr. Morgan, now finally names himself leader of the community and orders the murder of Margo and Tommy first. Tommy leaves the premises and arrives just in time to save Margo from the Nazis. Back at Tommy's sister's estate, they discover that Hansen has kidnapped Luther and the family son.

Tommy and Jack storm the headquarters of the Nazi church and free the children. Tommy competes against Hansen and can defeat him. When he refuses to kill the man, he gains the respect of the surviving members. When Hansen pulls himself up again and wants to shoot Tommy, Owen beats him and kills his former leader.

background

Best of the Best 3 is the first in the martial arts film franchise that did not receive a theatrical release and was released direct to video in the United States.

Barry Gray's script was supposed to be filmed under the title No Turning Back , and it featured a story about a black Gulf War veteran who comes home. When Phillip Rhee was presented with the script, he decided to film it himself and had Deborah Scott rewrite it to Tommy Lee, his character from Karate Tiger IV - Best of the Best and Best of the Best 2 .

The film was released in Germany in both a shortened FSK16 and an uncut FSK18 version on video by VPS. So far only the FSK16 version has been released on DVD.

criticism

Best of the Best 3 is a typical representative of the American action film . Despite addressing social problems, the film did not receive good reviews and is considered a B-movie .

“A film that quickly sinks into routine action and that frivolously misses the chance to grapple with the phenomenon of racial hatred. The portrayal of vigilante justice as a means of conflict resolution finally disqualifies him "
