Deneb Kaitos ( Arabic tail of the monster) is the name of the star β Ceti (Beta Ceti ). Deneb Kaitos has an apparent magnitude of 2.04 mag and is therefore (despite its name) brighter than α Ceti and the brightest star in the constellation Whale. He is an orange giant ( Red Clump Star ) of the spectral type K0 at a distance of almost 100 light years (Hipparcos database). Deneb Kaitos is sometimes also called Diphda (frog). Other names: Difda al Thani vonالضفدع الثاني aḍ-ḍafdaʿ aṯ-ṯānī 'the second frog' (“the first frog” is Fomalhaut ), as well as Rana Secunda.
The IAU has the proper name on August 21, 2016 Diphda defined as standardized proper name for this star.
